The course is OT 216-Genesis-Leviticus and I would personally tell anyone who is taking this course, to do everything. The video's are all very educational and you can see, in maps and pictures, the places where the events unfold. I am also taking Old Testament Basic OT 128, which goes along with this course.
After reading through Genesis, again, I gleamed some new insights. I will share as I go along.
This book is the book about beginnings It explains how God created us in His own image, the only living being with a soul. It does not say how he did it all, it says: "God said and it was so".
It shows that our God is the creator and only God created, designed and planned the whole, wonderful universe and every living thing in it. Pretty awesome thought. In the first two chapters, everything is as how God made it, perfect. Paradise. God gave Adam and Eve a test of obedience, to see who would be in charge, so to speak, God or man. Man failed. Sin entered into the perfect world and it was not as it was meant to be. In chapter 3, when sin entered, three things happened from that. First, denial, blaming someone else. Second, shame and thirdly, broken fellowship with God. God had a plan in chapter three, this is the first mention of the coming redeemer, Jesus. Though all creation was to suffer from that sin, God shows us how loving He is, He planned on redeeming us.
God started the nation of Israel, to be priests, ambassadors for Him, for the whole world They were given the law and God's ways to keep them alive, to tell the world Who God was and to prepare the world for the birth of Jesus Christ They were to be the examples.
Sadly, to me, Genesis starts out in the first two chapters, perfect and then end up, after murder, troubles, man dOing his own thing to the death of Joseph in a coffin, in Egypt.
NEWLY LEARNED: Why God chose the Hebrews to be His chosen people.
WHAT HIT ME MOST: God is totally in control and has made the perfect plan (Jesus) for redeeming us from this sinful world, by His grace, we cannot earn, buy, steal, beg, con, only His grace gives us salvation.
